Midwestern Roughleaf Dogwood (Cornus drummondii) - Upright shrub or small tree to 50 feet high; branches gray, with brown (rarely white) slender pith; leaves ovate to elliptic, with prolonged tips, scabrous (rarely smooth) above, pilose-woolly beneath; corymbs round-topped, pubescent, 4-7 cm. broad; corolla subcylindric in bud; petals 4.5-6 mm. long; fruit white, 5-6 mm. in diameter; stone subglobose.
Open woodlands and glades over calcareous rocks (limestone, calcareous shale).
